The progress my group has made with all of this is we have scheduled a date to go into our shelter and donate the money ourselves and I must say we are all beyond excited! That is pretty much the only thing that we have left to be done. Other than that, we are done editing and fixing up our weebly pages and we are almost done with our final genius hour reflections. We are still ensuring we will meet our deadlines because the date is official and we are basically done with everything else!

My group is going to use our time wisely with only six Fridays left by actually scheduling a date that all of us can actually make to donate the money to our local animal shelter. We raised $300 exact and want to donate it as soon as possible. With the time we have in between we have been writing our genius hour reflection and as of right now I am three almost four paragraphs in. I am assuring that I will meet my deadlines because of how much time I have to finish the refection and all we have left out of this whole project is to donate it.
A group of ¨STEM students create an award winning Invention¨ which is a generator powered by wind to power even the smallest of light. It is helping improve and save small lit areas in neighborhoods and many other areas all over. One of the kids in the group says that engineering was the most important part in this project. This group never won nationals out of every time they went but they did win a lot of prize money because of how great their project was and how much it could actually progress. However, they believe that when you are designing something as an engineer, you are only typically designing something to make it better.
According to this article...
http://content.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,1879593,00.html A genius can come inherited from good genes or their good surroundings. The definition of genius is one who has intelligence, enthusiasm, and endurance to acquire the needed expertise in a broadly valued domain of achievement. What used to be known as a genius was someone who just had raw talent and natural intelligence. However, that idea eventually faded and people began to realize that practice inst something you do once you're good, its the thing you do that makes you good. For one thing you need to be smart enough for practice to teach you something. Therefore, I will use this information strongly to help me push through on my groups genius hour project because it if we practice it more and more, we ill succeed. (We raised $300) Today we had a guest speaker come in and talk about his genius hour project of building his very own 3d printer. It had my full attention because it inspires me to see what people can actually do. It made me notice that providing good for people and helping out around our community with my genius hour project that it could benefit other people to do the same.
I found a statement in an article online that really spoke out to me the most. It states, "Genius is not about scoring 1600 on the SATs, mastering fourteen languages at the age of seven, finishing Mensa exercises in record time, having an extraordinarily high IQ, or even about being smart." It really spoke out to me because it is very true. Some of the people out there in the world who are not the smartest people, tend to succeed by practicing, trying over and over again, being creative, and so much more. We should challenge ourselves to succeed. The way the author of this article described a genius is different than what genius is described as on the internet or in a dictionary. On the internet its described as being intelligent with creative power. However, that is partially true because you do not have to be intelligent to be a genius. With my project for genius hour, I intend to be creative and push through with raising money for the animal shelter.
I believe that everyone fails at some point in their life. It's not a bad thing at all. Failing only helps you get better and stronger and helps you learn from your mistakes. Failure builds us up to the person we are today. Take Albert Einstein for example, he failed multiple times only to become better and actually succeed in the end you never giving up. An article that I read online about kids around the world in schools who are and are not allowed to do genius hour projects. A genius hour project is based on anything you want to create or test out and using your freedom of class time to work on YOUR project and not the teachers assignments. Some schools aren't allowed this because they are worried about kids wasting their learning time to do something they want. I think this is actually a good idea because kids have big imaginations and can accomplish so many goals in life. With the reading of this genius hour project article I plan on setting my mind towards my project and focusing on it a lot more.
During my time of working on this project I would like to accomplish my task of raising money for our local animal shelter and bring more awareness to people about the animals there. Many of them have been neglected, abused, and much more. What I plan on doing is making t-shirts with a few other people and selling them at our school, at a park, or other places in the community. What I plan on doing with the money we make is donate it to the shelter so they can buy food, toys, blankets, and much more for the animals.
